Traffic Insurance or Casco? Which One Should You Choose?

One of the most common questions for car owners is: Is traffic insurance enough, or is casco also necessary?
Traffic Insurance or Casco? Which One Should You Choose?

One of the most common questions for car owners is:

Is traffic insurance enough, or is casco also necessary?

Let’s explore the key differences and which one is right for you.

Traffic Insurance (Compulsory Liability Insurance)

  1. Legally mandatory – every vehicle must have it.
  2. Covers material or bodily damage to third parties if you're at fault in an accident.
  3. Does NOT cover damage to your own vehicle.

Example: You hit another car and are found at fault. Your traffic insurance pays for the other driver’s vehicle repairs and any medical costs.

Kasko Insurance (Optional Vehicle Insurance)

  1. Optional, but highly recommended.
  2. Covers your own vehicle's damage, regardless of fault.
  3. Includes risks such as accidents, fire, theft, natural disasters, broken windows, vandalism, etc.

Example: You crash into a wall and damage your car. Only casco will cover the repair costs.

🔍 So, Which One Should You Get?

Your SituationRecommendation

Older or low-value car

Traffic insurance is sufficient (it’s mandatory)

New, expensive, or financed car

Definitely get casco insurance as well

Frequent driving, busy cities, long trips

Both insurances are highly recommended

Peace of mind and full protection

Get both traffic and casco coverage

Conclusion:

  1. Traffic Insurance = Legally required, covers damage to others.
  2. Casco Insurance = Optional but protects your own vehicle.

If you must choose only one, traffic insurance is mandatory by law. But if your car is valuable or you want full protection, having both types is the smartest option.
